What Is Kinesio Taping or Spider Tech?
Have you seen your favorite athlete or Olympian adorned with colorful tape and wondered what it is and why they were wearing it? It’s called kinesiology tape or kinesio tape for short. As to why they are wearing it, that can be for many reasons. Kinesio tape is a water proof flexible tape that is applied to the body. It can be used to alleviate pain, improve stability of a joint, reduce swelling and promote circulation. You can combine kinesio tape with treatments like, Sports Acupuncture and Biopuncture, for greater pain relief!
Are All Tapes the Same?
Generally when you go to an athletic trainer they will use a white tape usually referred to as McConnel tape. It is an inflexible tape that is used to support the joint, but will also limit range of motion. Kinesiology tape is specifically designed to help improve the stability of the joint while allowing the joint to move through full range of motion. Kensio tape was first developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in the 1970?s. Since that time other companies has deve their own version of kinesiology tape. This includes SpiderTech and Rock tape to just name a few. Dr. Kase’s Kinesio Tex Tape is the original kinesiology tape, but both SpiderTech and Rock Tape have their advantages as well.
